オロスコ=エストラーダが手兵ヒューストン響と
「アメリカの音楽」を情熱的に演奏!

SACDハイブリッド盤。今最も勢いのある若手指揮者の一人、アンドレス・オロスコ=エストラーダ。ヒューストン交響楽団とのドヴォルザークの交響曲の録音でも注目を集めるなか、2017年1月、2月に録音した新作は「アメリカの音楽」で、レブエルタス、バーンスタイン、ピアソラ、ガーシュウィンの作品を収録しました。アンドレス・オロスコ=エストラーダは1977年南米のコロンビア生まれ。19歳でウィーンに渡り指揮を学びました。2009年から2015年までウィーン・トーンキュンストラー管弦楽団の首席指揮者を、また2014/15シーズンからはhr交響楽団とヒューストン交響楽団の音楽監督となり、2018年現在最も注目を集めている若手指揮者の一人です。歴史あるヒューストン交響楽団との入念なリハーサルと深い信頼関係から当団の伝統を維持しつつ若き巨匠の新鮮な解釈を取り入れており、当録音でも熱のこもったオロスコ=エストラーダらしく情熱的に演奏しております。ストコフスキー、バルビローリ、プレヴィン、エッシェンバッハなどの歴代首席指揮者のもと世界的な評価を得てきたヒューストン交響楽団をこの若き巨匠が新しい息吹を吹き込みます。メキシコ生まれのレブエルタスはメキシコ国立音楽院卒業後、ヴァイオリンと作曲をシカゴで学び、その後テキサスではコンサートマスターとして、また母国では指揮者として活躍。スペイン内戦では共和派義勇軍に参加し、終戦後はメキシコに戻るも最期は貧困とアルコール中毒により41歳で急遽した作曲家です。ニコラス・ギレンの詩に基づくセンセマヤが最も有名で、リズムは躍動感に富み野性味あふれるメキシコ風の趣の作品です。

For Music of the Americas, a 2018 release on the audiophile label PentaTone, Andres Orozco-Estrada leads the Houston Symphony in vivid performances of 20th century works from Mexico, the United States, and Argentina. Opening with Sylvestre Revueltas' explosive Sensemaya, an orchestral tour de force that depicts an Afro-Cuban ritual, the program is clearly intended as a showcase for an orchestra of virtuosos, especially showing off the precision and energy of the Houston Symphony's percussion section. Followed by Leonard Bernstein's popular Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, which offers a colorful mix of Latin rhythms and Broadway lyricism, and Astor Piazzolla's elegiac Tangazo, which blends the seduction of the tango with modernist counterpoint, the album's theme comes into clearest focus. Yet despite its jazz inflections, George Gershwin's An American in Paris seems to be included more for the composer's nationality than for any particular American feeling in the music, since it evokes a Parisian atmosphere throughout and gives a clear nod to Maurice Ravel. PentaTone's spacious sound and detailed reproduction make the album wholly enjoyable, and the impeccable recording demonstrates the label's first-rate engineering.
